The allegation of voters' list manipulations is getting murkier day by day Now, BJP has jumped into the fray with former union minister Anurag Thakur demanding resignation of Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi and TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, accusing irregularities in the voters' list in each constituency-- Amethi, Kanauj, Wayanad, and Diamond Harbour-- from where they were elected.
He threw their allegation of “vote chori” at them, accusing them of winning the election on fake votes.
He accused irregularities in the registration of votes in the Kolathur Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu and the Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh from where Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin and Akhilesh's wife Dimple Yadav were elected respectively.
From Rae Bareli, Wayanad, Kanauj to Diamond Harbour-- one question was echoing-- why did they make fake voters?
Responding to his allegations, the Congress alleged that the BJP is aligned with the commission as the data of the five Lok Sabha constituencies which Thakur presented were in the electronic from.
The party said that it also wants the electronic voters' list of Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi won with a small margin. Thakur meant that the last Lok Sabha election was conducted on a fake voters' list, so it be declared null and void, the Congress suggested.
The election commission finds itself in a situation where two major political parties of the country are wanting in trusting it. In this no-holds-barred battle, the election commission is the loser. The sooner it clears the doubts the better it would for the country's electoral democracy.
