Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday fired another salvo at the election commission over declaration of as many as 22 lakh alive voters as dead and about 36 lakh voters as shifted out in the draft electoral rolls prepared and released after completion of the first phase of Special Intensive Revision in Bihar.

Social activist Yogendra Yadav had on Tuesday presented two of them in the Supreme Court at the hearing on the issue but the apex court refused to take cognizance of them after the election commission raised objection to presenting them in the court. Around half-a- dozen of such voters, including four women, met Rahul Gandhi at his residence and claimed before the media cameras that they have been shown dead and their names have been deleted from the draft rolls. All of them said that that they are from the Raghopur Assembly constituency in Bihar from where the leader of opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav was elected in the 2024 election.

One of them, who led these voters to meet Rahul Gandhi, claimed that about 50 voters have been shown dead in the draft rolls in each panchayat of the constituency.

Rahul Gandhi assured them that the Congress along with its ally RJD in Bihar would not allow it to happen.

Now the ball is in the commission’s court. It must verify the allegations and come up with answer and measures to rectify them.
