Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered tired and tested speeches in Bihar on Friday seeking support for NDA candidates in the coming elections. He announced no blueprint for development of Bihar. Home Minister Amit Shah has already ruled out industrialisation of the state on the ground of lack of land for it.
Senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad has no problem with the migration. He says they are doing well in other states. Modi chatted with the Biharis in their dialects to humour them for their votes. Home Minister Amit Shah has taken the command to raise the illegal immigration issue, while Modi the "Jungle Raj.'
Amit Shah waxes eloquent on the India economy but keeps mum on the Bihar. Modi referred to the 'Jungle Raj' 15 times in his 45-minute speech at Samastipur.
Modi have been cornering the major chunk of the votes both in Assembly and the Lok Sabha elections harping on the 'Jungle Raj', pandering to the Bihari pride promising utopias to them. At a different election meeting in Patna, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that Bihar will soon become a developed state.
How can he make it happen in the mid of depressing power scenario in the state? According to a book titled The New Bihar: Rekindling Governance and Development edited by former Union Revenue Secretary N.K. Singh and British economist Nicholas Stern, the Bihar government took no major steps to improve the power scenario in the state after carving out of Jharkhand from it in 2000.
Bihar suffers from a massive deficit of power, the book says. Power supply in the state is far below the others states, it adds. The state is at the crossroads in the state with Prashant Kishor entering. Where will it go, it has to decide in the next 20 days.
