West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee is cashing on the BJP-ruled states drive against illegal Bangladeshis on the controversial ground of the tone of their Bangla speak.
The chief minister on Monday (18 August) announced at a press conference at the state secretariat a monetary benefit scheme of Rs 5,000 per month for those who have fled from their work places to home from different BJP-ruled states following the police actions. They will continue to get the benefit for one year till they get a new job.
According to the chief minister, in the past few days about 10,000 people have returned to West Bengal to avoid the indiscriminate police actions.
The benefit is not limited to them. More than 22 lakh workers who are outside Bengal will also benefit from this scheme called Shramshree by registering on its website.
The Trinamool Congress has also launched a language movement in the state to awaken Bengali sub-nationalism. The benefit that she has extended to the victims is commendable but at the same time she will also get benefit from its political spin-off.
