Now Odisha's Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to move the state high court seeking directions to the commission to probe and resolve discrepancies pointed by it in the counting of votes in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Both elections were conducted simultaneously in the state in 2024. The party said that the number of votes counted were found to be excess of the number of voters recorded in the EVMs in all parliamentary constituencies.
BJD spokesperson Amar Patnaik accused that the total votes counted in a parliamentary constituency differed significantly from the votes recorded in the Assembly constituencies falling under the Lok Sabha constituency.
After the scheduled winding up of polling, additional votes ranging from 7 % to as high as 30 % were recorded. In about 50 % of Assembly constituencies, this post poll discrepancy ranged between 15% to 30 %," he alleged.
"As per EC explanation, votes cast during mock polls were not removed from some EVMs leading to inflated totals. Failing to remove mock poll votes before actual polling is a criminal activity," Mr. Patnaik said.
The party had raised these issues in last December before the commission but no action was taken to audit right from the preparation of the voters' list to conclusion of counting as demanded by the party.
